Planting a Seed | Among the Lilies

From a babe in Christ… 2 Peter 3:18

Growing In the things of God

I grew up in an environment that kept me sheltered.
I was kept in a dark place where I almost felt safe.
I was revealed to the light and left to be dried out.
I felt lifeless, no longer sheltered, and no longer hidden.
I felt exposed and alone.
Then something cut me open, picked me out, washed me, and buried me.
I suddenly felt this wave of nutrients I never knew existed.
Although I was still in the dark and buried,
I felt life happening.
I felt myself growing in such an unfamiliar way
I felt empowered.
I felt the sun peeking through the dirt thrown on me.
I started to grow leaves.
These leaves gave me hope.
These leaves gave me motivation.
These leaves made me feel seen and loved.
Then, the leaves made me compare myself to others I had never seen before.
These leaves made me feel small.
These leaves, which I never had before, weren’t enough.
Then I realized these leaves were just the beginning.

I realized that the timing at which these leaves grow doesn’t dictate the fruit I’ll produce later.
From the moment I was released from the fruit before me, I contained purpose.
I was dried out, with a purpose.
I was buried with a purpose.
My leaves serve a purpose.
I am growing with Purpose.
